Psych Major – Old Head EP (feat Sadat X, Wordsworth, Jamal Gasol & more)

Emcee/Producer Psych Major leans into his senior status with new EP, “Old Head”. The five-track project celebrates 90’s boom-bap style with discordant edges and pointed lyrics.

Examples of this is the lead-off track “Kvetch Pt. 1” which relates a series of gripes the artist has with the social media culture and the pent-up rage that has been building over the last few years. As the artist relates, “yeah, post-pandemic, post U.S. elections, there’s a very unhinged, unexpected response that can pop off at a moment’s notice while you are in the most mundane environments. Part of what I relate to in that track is when this super tall, old guy was threatening me because he thought I had too many items to use the self-check-out at the supermarket. He’s threatening to kill me and I’m wondering if I counter-attack, kick an old man’s ass and get cancelled online or even worse get my ass kicked by an old man in better shape and become a meme.”

Other tracks delve like “Pre-Giuliani” (feat. Squeegie Oblong) are an homage to pre-gentrification New York City from two life-long residents and “Under Any Condition” feat. long-time partner Dagha (with chorus provided by Sadat X). As Psych says of the latter track “yeah, it’s showing appreciation for my inner circle, which is small as fuck, just a few friends and my family, because you can get lost, not just in this game but at life taking people at their word, believing that their public image is truly who they are.”

Other guests include lyricist extraordinaire Wordsworth and a special appearance/outro by Jamal Gasol.
