“The Cella Dwellas Knew” featuring Quelle Chris, is the first single off the Blockhead album The Aux. The album is a giant exclamation point on what has already been a big year for Backwoodz Studioz, as well as Blockhead’s first rap album since Garbology, his 2021 collaboration with Aesop Rock. The Aux finds the veteran producer matchmaker with some of his favorite artists and the result is an indie hip-hop All-Star game of an album; highlight reel dunks, allez-oops, and deep threes coming too fast to count. Blockhead tapped billy woods as an executive producer and when woods asked who he wanted to work with that he hadn’t had a chance to, Quelle Chris was one of the first names that came to mind.

“Quelle is a guy I’ve been listening to for a long time and I’ve always admired his creativity and versatility. This song seems long overdue,” Blockhead explains, “and what I love about the song is he basically took the tired trope of rapping about rappers, twisted the perspective and gave it new life.”
