‘Mindless Meadow’ began in the first month of lockdown in 2020. I had just moved into a new apartment with my girlfriend at the time. Our 2nd in L.A.
Amazingly, the neighbor upstairs was deaf in one ear & my neighbors who shared the wall with my studio loved music & didn’t mind the noise. Wow.
A lot was going on during that time. Not just for me of course, but the entire world. A multitude of emotions were swirling through my heart & mind & i was hit with a whirlwind of inspiration. To be able to have music as an extension/expression is a whole ass blessing, but boy oh boy did it hit hard during that time. Before I knew it, I had an album’s worth of songs in just a few weeks. This music felt different. Like a transformation was occuring. It didn’t feel like JUICEB?X.
On my record ‘Overthin King,’ the last song was called “ttwig” – an acronym standing for “that’s the way it goes,” an outlook that i’ve leaned into as my spirit’s progressed. It was the perfect name & thus, ttwig was born.
Because we were all stuck inside & had no idea how long we would be, I started thinking of this record as a destination. The place where this music lived. Both in the present moment but simultaneously in perpetuity. Mindless Meadow. A grand expanse of space, home to everything under the sun, both pleasant & unpleasant, but all beautiful nonetheless.
My soul lives in this record. These songs deal with everything from an imminent break up (“Umbra”), to a thank you letter for my hometown (“Ossining”) to a protest song written from the perspective of opposing sides (“Rectify”). But we’ll get more into that later. For now, however Mindless Meadow has found you, it welcomes you. With open arms.
Get comfortable, close your eyes & press play.
yours with shiny brown eyes,
ttwig
