Roccwell – Pastime EP
During the Deutschrap boom at the end of the 90s Roccwell founded the rap crew Dickelippen together with 3 friends, which even became newcomer of the month in an issue of the JUICE magazine. When Roccwell then hung up the mic, he quickly realized that he was missing something essential, and he began to craft his first beats around 2008. Based on connections from his environment, first remixes and releases with crews and MCs from New York (House of Repz, Dro Pesci) were made, laying the foundation for further connections and releases.
In the course of the next few years, various independent single releases followed (including singles with Ruste Juxx and Born Unique), the self-released album The Cycle as All Coasters together with the Canadian MC Mickey Boston and Dj Case from Wales and then – when Roccwell had met the US MC Wildelux living there in Japan in 2017 – the EP The Nomad In No Man’s Land as the first official release in 2018 via the label Vinyl Digital. At the same time, he was already working on his solo producer album Still Lovin’ Boombap, which was released in May 2020 via Vinyl Digital. With the album Roccwell could make a name for himself in the underground scene – even DJ Premier played 2 singles from the album in his show at Sirius/XM Shade45.
Still Lovin’ Boombap – the title of the album, stands not only for his unbroken love for the Boombap sound, but above all the daily struggle of the Hip Hop generation 35plus. Despite all his family and professional obligations, Roccwell still has a lot of plans. Currently he is working on the finalization of the album In Good Company, which he will release together with B-Base and 12Finger Dan (known as producer duo Soulbrotha and from the Backspin magazine format Love’n Hate) under the name Soulrocca.
Also in completion is the EP Chocolate Bars with New Yorker Emma Lee M.C., which will feature some big names.
To shorten the waiting time until then, Roccwell’s mini EP Pastime will be released in 2021 via the Munich-based label Beat Art Department. The EP will feature Wildelux, Dj C.S.P., Mayhem (EMS), DJ LP2 as well as KORE and Dj Case.
You better be prepared if you are still lovin’ boombap!
