DJ Harrison – Cosmos feat. Pink Siifu [audio/video]
Richmond multi-instrumentalist and producer DJ Harrison releases “Cosmos,” the latest single from his forthcoming album, Tales From the Old Dominion. Following previous releases “Be Better” and “City Lights,” the track features Pink Siifu, who also stars in the claymation video directed by Yung Kazi.
Pink Siifu tapped DJ Harrison to produce tracks on his latest album GUMBO!, and at the same time, they collaborated for “Cosmos”. The song’s lyrics are about “the feeling of needing to get away to a higher place – whether to have fun with friends, getting a new out-of-body experience, or to deal with the stress of life.”
Tales from the Old Dominion pays tribute to Harrison’s hometown of Richmond, VA. During the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020, as he watched monuments to Confederate generals come down in Virginia — the Confederacy’s capital and “Old Dominion” of the album’s title — Harrison wanted to channel his feelings into music that spoke to the moment. He worked intensely in his home studio, Jellowstone, where he also records music with his band Butcher Brown, and emerged with an album that both bears witness to hard times and finds reasons to be hopeful. He explains: “There are always markers and monuments to remind us of certain histories we don’t want to relive, but there are also histories that African-Americans are starting… We’re finding hope and beauty in all the bad shit that happened.”
