TH1RT3EN (Pharoahe Monch, Jack White, Daru Jones & Marcus Machado) – Fight feat. Cypress Hill [video]
Jamaica, Queens’ legendary emcee Pharoahe Monch has announced his combative new project, th1rt3en, joined by musical assassins Jack White drummer Daru Jones + renowned guitarist, Marcus Machado. Entitled A Magnificent Day For An Exorcism, the new album is slated for release January 22, 2021 and speaks to the cleansing that we need from societal ills and a world gone mad.
th1rt3en excels in the “hip hop-rock infusion†arena in which so many have failed, building ownership and symmetry without compromising what makes the individuals great. Exploring the topic of police brutality and murder, particularly against Black citizens, and emplying a familiar school yard chant, the band unleashes lead single “Fight†(ft. Cypress Hill). The propelling percussion, hypnotizing hook, elite lyricism and brilliant guitar work makes for a sonic explosion worthy of the best of all genres.
Arriving at a time when it is needed most, th1rt3en is aggressive, abrasive, often irreverent and fearless with their examination of the world today. Pharoahe reveals, “The driving force behind ‘Fight’ is anger. Anger at a never ending saga that repeats itself over and over. My frustration with people not hearing the outcries, until the atrocities of the brutality have been recorded on smartphones. And still, the people allow their willful ignorance to support and protect America’s culpability. To me “Fight†Is equally as much a vibe, as it is a protest record.â€
