Atmosphere – Lovely (feat. Nikki Jean) [Official Video] + Whenever [album+tour]
Today, legendary hip hop duo Atmosphere surprises fans by dropping a new studio album, Whenever, without warning. A music video directed by Tomas Aksamit for the album track “Lovely†(feat. Nikki Jean) accompanies the surprise release.
On Whenever, Slug and Ant effortlessly delve into new thematic territory, bringing a new perspective to their decades-long exploration of what it means to be human. The 12-track effort finds the venerable Slug turning a page after 2018’s rattling Mi Vida Local and starting a new chapter in which he sounds—reluctantly—in love with life. Over Ant’s bluesy, funk-inspired soundscapes, Slug closes out the decade with a powerful reclamation of his feelings and actions in spite of (or in acceptance of) the unpredictable twists and turns of life.
“This project is quietly about reclamation,†explains Slug. “When we are overly affected by our surroundings, we sometimes have to step back, look at it from afar, and reclaim ourselves—take agency of our own feelings, history, visions, and actions. If we don’t, we become a puppet/tool of our own circumstances. Inspiration, much like love and death, can happen Whenever.â€
