Potatohead People – Nick & Astro’s Guide To The Galaxy [album] (feat. Illa J, Moka Only, Nanna.B & more)

Counting supporters Soulection, Nightmares on Wax, Pomo, Exmag, Big Boi, Phife Dawg, DJ Spinna, and more, and collaborations with Montreal beats star Kaytrananda, Vancouver duo Potatohead People have established themselves as living legends amongst their peers. Comprised of Nick Wisdom and Astrological, Potatohead People have remained relatively quite over the last three year’s since their critically acclaimed 2015 debut album, Big Luxury. Today, the duo are back with their highly anticipated sophomore LP- Nick & Astro’s Guide To The Galaxy.

Out now via Brooklyn tastemaker label Bastard Jazz, Potatohead are serving up a 12-track album stacked with collaborators including J Dilla’s brother Illa J, K-Maxx, Anderson Paak and MNDSGN collaborator Nanna B, Kapok, Moka Only, and Trian Kayhatu. With a signature sound that can be described as a J Dilla-esque hip-hop / future electronic feel, the new album hear’s Potatohead delve in a myriad of genres including classic funk on Kayhatu collaboration “Returning The Flavour,” ultra smooth R&B with Nanna B. on stunning singles “Morning Sun” and “Change Of Heart” featuring Illa J, and 90s hip-hop flows on “All Alone” with Illa J and K-Maxx. “Liftin’ Up” featuring San Francisco’s K-Maxx ventures into West Coast boogie territories, while the album’s closer, “Rituals,” goes for a deeper more atmospheric electronic vibe. Seamlessly moving between downtempo rhythms, ambient sound, analog synth, organic instrumentation, and more, Potatohead People’s long awaited return on Nick & Astro’s Guide To The Galaxy ushers in an exciting and forward thinking new chapter in the duo’s evolving discography.

To date, the Canadian duo boast a number of noteworthy accolades thanks to a series of EP’s, including their 2012 landmark ‘Kosmichemusik’ EP and pressed 7” which quickly became a collector’s item. Potatohead People’s productions made their way to artists like Illa J who tapped the duo to produce his now critically acclaimed self-titled album, as well as producers like Kaytranada who co-produced Illa J’s “Strippers” with the pair. Illa J album cut “All Good Pt. 2” was featured in EA’ s NBA LIVE 2K16 video game, with other tracks later landing on Netflix shows Bloodline and Dynasty.
