Nanna.B – Golden [EP]
Melding an activist mindset and golden voice into her textured and lush strain of neosoul, Nanna.B is one of the most unique artists in modern R&B. On Golden, her latest EP released today, Nanna.B moves fluidly between modes and genres, spinning organic, ethereal instrumentals into introspective feminist slow jams. Originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, Nanna.B is a respected figure in the L.A. underground. The EP features production from Anderson .Paak, whose manager Adrian Miller helped put Nanna.B onto a bigger audience, and a charming guest appearance from Odd Future rapper Hodgy (formerly Hodgy Beats), but Nanna.B is the true star, bringing a fresh outsider perspective, inspired by the likes of Roy Ayers, Minnie Riperton, Joni Mitchell and Alice Coltrane, to the modern R&B scene.
Apple: Golden – EP – Nanna.B
“The Golden project is basically about the many shades of love and lust,” explains Nanna.B. “It’s inspired by different relationships but could pretty much describe one from the meeting and establishment of common grounds on ‘Golden’ to the all-consuming passion on ‘Apocalyptic Love,’ the ‘now i need my space and I got shit to do’ vibes on ‘Steady Line’ to the call for universal love energy on ‘Antidote.'”
Earlier this month, Nanna.B shared “Golden,” which followed the Billboard-debuted anthem “Where is the $?.” Premiered by Highsnobiety, the wildly creative and unconventional “Golden” finds Nanna.B and her guest Hodgy exploring the dunes of California (or transported to another, funkier planet) until they unite in an artistic pose on top of a mountain. Produced by Anderson .Paak, the track is both futuristic and naturalistic, with propulsive rubbery bass, soulful guitar, and analog synth effects underlying Nanna.B’s questioning and uncertainty when it comes to her love. Though she is not yet well-known, Nanna.B’s unique and strange musical concoction helped her develop a stellar reputation among her fellow creatives, as she’s earned praise from the likes of Anderson .Paak, Anthony Valadez, Iman Omari, Mndsgn, Shafiq Husayn, and Boiler Room for her sound. In addition to her musical prowess, Nanna.B is a talented visual artist and a businesswoman, who releases her music under her own LoBudgetChild label. Golden is currently available for stream and purchase.
