Lando Chill – Break Them Shackles [video]
Lando Chill drops a new video off The Boy Who Spoke To The Wind.
Lando Chill finds himself bound, lost in the desert, and struggling, emaciated and looking for salvation. Inspired by Paolo Coelho’s “The Alchemist,” director Malcolm Critcher worked with Lando Chill to interpret the work and it’s connection to the music. The creative collaboration and synergy between musician and director is something unique. Having teamed up before for videos on “Coroner” and “Save Me,” the duo have proven time and time again that their best works come in tandem.
From the new album The Boy Who Spoke To The Wind, “Break Them Shackles” is a standout track. Lando Chill is showing his soul on the single, sharing his core philosophies on his arms and wrists. The passion and soul that Lando brings to his music can’t be imitated and we’re pleased to be able to bring you an artist bearing his authentic self.
Apple: The Boy Who Spoke to the Wind – Lando Chill
DIRECTOR’ STATEMENT:
In creating this video I did my best to draw from the same inspirations Lando did with “Boy Who Spoke to the Windâ€. I read, and re-read The Alchemist. I spoke at length with him about what inspired the album at a foundational level, both in his personal life and in the world today.
One thing that struck me about both The Alchemist and Boy Who Spoke to the Wind, was that each and every time I returned to them I took away something different. Great art functions as a mirror, allowing you to reevaluate and reinterpret its meaning based on where you are in your own life.
I wanted the videos I did for this album to function in that same space of fostering self reflection. I didn’t want to give easy answers. I wanted to invite the viewer to apply their own meaning to the symbols and events that occur. Drawing from films such as 2001: A Space Odyssey and Under The Skin I went about curating a project in which I did my best to set up an intriguing equation, the hope here of course is to provoke introspection within the viewer as they personally work to apply meaning.
As a viewer, and an artist I have always found this process to be infinitely more rewarding, and if Lando’s music is remotely indicative of his fan base, I am confident they will feel the same.
