Cleveland-bred musician Aaron Abernathy joins forces with long-time collaborators Black Milk and Phonte to bring his high school days back to life. “Bachelorette,” from Abernathy’s upcoming release Monologue, is an ode to growing up in the city of Cleveland, his Dad letting him borrow the ‘96 Pontiac Grand Prix, and him taking that opportunity to pick up his crew and test the speakers out with his favorite anthems on the way to the mall. The song also touches on each man’s high school love.

“You have three friends that all have three perspectives. The track tells the story of me trying to get at a girl I’ve been eyeing, Black Milk in a long-term relationship with his girl, and Phonte is the player of the group,” says Abernathy. “Bachelorette is the city of Cleveland to me. Musically I aimed to compose the record around that soulful pimpish midwest vibe to set the tone of the story I’m telling in the album. The feeling is home.”

“I got my eye out to get ya/ With the utmost respect and dignity is how I plan to treat ya/ To put you at ease / Just know that I’m a gentleman of scriptures / I’m a man of my word / I wouldn’t speak if I could not deliver,” sings Abernathy.
