EMERALD-LANE is a group headed by Los Angeles’s own Orion “Sonny” Coates alongside a group instrumentalists and musicians. Sonny Coates has previously worked with SA-RA, Thundercat and Cody Chesnutt and other group members include Wow Jones (Bryson Tiller), Mike Moore (Kid Cudi), Joel Whitley (Stevie Wonder, Kimbra), Thomas Drayton (Childish Gambino) and Allakoi Peete. Collectively the group will release a double EP entitled “C M C S” which will be released on July 8th. The double EP release is an unique approach to releasing and recording music as the EP was essentially recorded twice and split between two EPs. The “RED” or ‘grid’ version features a modern production aesthetic and the “BLUE” or “off-grid” version features more live instrumentalists that provides a timeless aesthetic. The “BLUE” version also features the participation of the late Austin Peralta (RIP) who was an artist on Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder imprint.

Coates explains:
““We want to offer beneficent products that provide beauty, insight, and cosmic-awareness. That’s done by initiating streams of information that help people to truly know themselves. With ◊ EMERALD-LANE, we want to redefine the culture’s approach to creating music. We forget that music is technology; it’s ancient, and yet it’s futuristic. We’re not entertaining as much as we’re consciously initiating programs and applications.”

Today, check out the first single from the “RED” EP for the title track “C M C S” which features Sonny Coates (Rhythm Guitar, Vocals), Jason Freeman (Rhodes), Wow Jones (Key-Bass), Mike Moore (Drums), Allakoi Pete & Alan Lightner (Percussion) and Joel Whitley (Lead Guitar).
