Upright bassist, composer, producer and arranger Miles Mosley has announced the launch of the new single “Abraham.” Dropping in digital formats on the newly established Alpha Pup Records sub-imprint World Galaxy April 15th, “Abraham” is a powerful expression from the music family Miles has been associated with since his inception as a professional artist, The West Coast Get Down. As a multi-faceted unit comprised of highly creative individuals rooted in Los Angeles, they’ve developed a unique core over the last few decades that is in every measure irreproducible. The release of “Abraham” in Miles’ discography is truly right on time in the course of the West Coast Get Down and their high standards of precision through music. It adds fulfillment of internal illumination to Miles’ path that was first recognized by the power of his Hebrew ancestry. The song “Abraham,” (Mosley’s first name by birth) is a tale of bravado in which a man, pressured by his surroundings, continues to lift himself up, something many people can identify with as cultural parameters constantly shift and change with each new generation.

“Abraham” was recorded in 2011 during the infamous marathon sessions at KSL Studios that produced close to 200 tracks (some of which appeared on the Kamasi Washington debut LP The Epic with Brainfeeder). West Coast Get Down alumni Tony Austin (drums), Ryan Porter (trombone), Kamasi Washington (tenor sax), Cameron Graves (piano) and Brandon Coleman (vintage keys) took part in the session for “Abraham,” with their individual talents shining bright in every measure. Zane Musa (tenor sax), who passed away in 2015, also appears on the track along with trumpeters Dontae Winslow and Chris Gray. The new single draws together a fusion of unique creativity, uncompromising vibrato and a lineage of sound that encompasses masters across rock, soul, jazz, funk and pop. It defines the highly dynamic approach to songwriting that Miles has brought to the world over the years in music, film and television, turning the creative engine up full speed. Charging out the gates with intricately mapped out harmonic passages of vocal driven soul and jazz, Miles crowns things off with a wah-wah drenched bass solo that rides in a lane reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix. The texture and voicing on the solo is unparalleled in the bass world, something that Miles frequently brings on a nightly basis to his live performances with Kamasi Washington. Co-produced by Tony Austin and their long-time manager, Barbara Sealy; “Abraham” is a sensational and timeless piece of work from Miles Mosley and a rare glimpse into the new sense of compositional styles coming forth on the bass.
