THNDRTHF (aka $imple of Sandpeople) – “Above Da Rim (Never Had A Good Time Breathin) 3” [audio]
As a founding member of Sandpeople, THNDRTHF (aka $imple) helped define the crew’s unique sound in the mid-2000s with his bold, driving production and unpredictable, seemingly off the cuff lyrics. $imple released his debut solo album Tied To Things in 2006 and co-produced Sandpeople’s acclaimed Honest Racket LP a year later. It was roughly around this time when the THNDRTHF alias first appeared on various Sandpeople mixtapes and one-off singles. In addition to the name change, the music was different in that it pushed $imple’s signature style even closer towards total digital anarchy. In 2010, THNDRTHF moved from Portland, Oregon to Brooklyn, New York and put music on hold to pursue a career in clothing. He helped launch the streetwear brand Control Sector in 2013, where his forward-looking designs became a sought after commodity by some of the biggest names in the music industry, including 2 Chainz, Chris Brown & Logic. Though music wasn’t his foremost focus, he never left it behind. Instead, he’s spent the last 6 years silently amassing an arsenal of gems, most of which haven’t seen the light of day.. until now. Heaven Noise is proud to be releasing what is essentially THNDRTHF’s lost tapes – a 51-track, 2 hour & 41 minute adventure titled Posting While High. A follow up effort to his self-titled 2008 release, THNDRTHF’s Posting While High is essentially a bulk status update consisting of everything from complete songs to half-finished ideas, as well as a plethora of instrumentals. THNDRTHF’s soundscape is as out there as it’s ever been; randomized melodies, stuttering drum loops, and pitched, sing-songy raps bounce listeners between states of psychedelic euphoria and dystopian paranoia. You never know what’s around the corner but that’s the mark of a true journey.
Posting While High will be available on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th) via iTunes, Bandcamp, Spotify & most other digital retailers & streaming sites. As a sample of what’s to come off the eclectic project, we’ve released the track “Above Da Rim (Never Had A Good Time Breathin) 3” – a head-nodding instrumental with a little something extra on top.
