Lou The Human – Brink [video]

From the slums of Shaolin, a new sound is beginning to shape the long storied New York borough. For years, our views of Staten Island have largely come through the music of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan, but now a new voice is emerging out of SI. Enter 20 year old emcee/producer Lou the Human. Lou isn’t looking for comparisons or co-signs, simply to bring a new perspective and show NY hip-hop is in good hands.

Lou the Human makes a strong first impression by way of his new video “Brink” (premiered by 2dopeboyz). The self-produced, minimalist single has no hook to distract you, just non-stop bars of witty lyricism that play like the rantings of a mad man: “I masturbate to pics of Anne Hathaway, watching Cast Away, that’s just me on an average day.”

The one-shot visuals perfectly coincide with the dark feel of the song. We follow Lou and his menacing masked companion down the streets of Staten Island, while the viewer is left in a constant state of discomfort fearing for where things will lead next. Lou approached the song and his forthcoming Humaniac EP like he was Heath Ledger playing The Joker in Batman, a sick character who mixes comedy and darkness…”Once you realize life’s a joke you kinda become a comedian,” says Lou.

On the brink of insanity? or the brink of stardom? (or both), Watch Lou the Human’s new video and be the judge.
