Rocky Rivera – Nom de Guerre [EP] + “Godsteppin” [video]
There is no music more socially-relevant and provocative than Rocky Rivera’s latest EP, “Nom de Guerre” – a six-song project borne from distilled millennial angst and modern-day musings. From the controversial feminist anthem, “Pussy Kills”, to her critique of social media in “Find My Way”, Rocky weaves through each song reflecting on the larger issues while turning inward for answers. Originally made as bonus tracks for her 2013 release, Gangster of Love, Rocky not only challenges the dominant narrative, but is defiant in the delivery of her message. This project is truly her best work to date.
“Godsteppin (Produced by Fatgums)” is the latest video collab with CoolReve and Beatrock Music, capturing the aftermath of recent police brutality protests across the country. Though Rocky has provided the soundtrack to protest before in previous music, this particular track was inspired by organizers around the world who took action in solidarity with #BlackLivesMatter.
