Beat*Society & Ayatollah – Put Your Hands to the Sky [audio]
Looking to inspire the next generation of producers, Beat*Society has partnered up with the legendary beatsmith, Ayatollah, to release Wendee, the first installment in their new instrumental series.
Back in the early-to-mid 2000’s, Beat*Society made a name for itself as the premier showcase dedicated to the art of beatmaking. Over the years, countless greats have participated in the event – from the likes of Pete Rock and Nottz to Buckwild and Jake One to Black Milk and 9th Wonder, the list goes on and on. Some of today’s most sought after producers like S1, !llmind, Marco Polo, Statik Selektah, Apollo Brown and Oddisee all sat on stage with their trusty tools of the trade and rocked crowds all across America.
As for Ayatollah, his signature soulful sound played a key part in the beat-driven explosion in mid-to-late-90′s hip-hop. He burst onto the scene with Mos Def‘s “Ms. Fat Bootyâ€, the lead single from the gold-selling Black on Both Sides, and went on to craft Rawkus-era classics like Styles P and Pharaohe Monch‘s “The Life.†Since then, he’s gone on to work with some of the biggest names in hip-hop, including Ghostface, Rakim, Talib Kweli, Cormega, Royce da 5’9″, Tragedy Khadafi, and Masta Ace.
