Jimmy ValenTime – Heaven Has a PRICE [mixtape]
Why does hip-hop matter? What does hip-hop do for the audience? These types of questions would be unimaginable even a few years ago and are now the standard topic of conversation when it comes to hip-hop music. Rappers are now more famous for their Vines, Tweets, and GIF’s, then a classic verse or amazing song. The music the eternal flame that will live beyond the next like or tweet, gets pushed further in the background. Jimmy ValenTime’s new project Heaven has a PRICE is a declaration of war against mediocrity.
Jimmy ValenTime clarifies his goal is for artists to be recognized for their talent instead of a phony controversy created in a record label office. “I believe music should make people feel good and not every artist needs to be political. Still your music needs to be based on a foundation of skill. You should not feel as a listener this person’s song is some scam to get them on a Vh-1 dating show.†The inclusion of Lil’ B’s produced “Really Got It†on the project act as a bridge; you can make fun music, while still displaying lyrical ability.
This is Jimmy ValenTime’s first solo mixtape, He has been featured on mix-tapes by Green Lantern, DJ Drama, and Mick Boogie. Heaven has a PRICE is the first project where all the songs were mixed, mastered and meant only for this project. The brief running time captures the spirit of Jimmy ValenTime and leaves you wanting more. Jimmy states “In 20 minutes you get a full understanding of me and my music.â€
Otis Clapp an excellent engineer brings a professional album level quality to the proceeding. Otis Clapp was astonished by the visceral level of emotion on the project. “Mixing this project, I was really drawn in by the raw emotion Jimmy displays. He’s a unique emcee that can paint a picture. While not being “Too Cool” to wear his heart on his sleeve.” Otis Clapp was given a production credit on “Outer Heaven,†due to heavy revision made from the studio demo. Jimmy says “The song started out just as a basic idea and he transformed it in to something that hits your soul.â€
Jimmy ValenTime masterminded The Lost Angels debut album Together, We Stand Alone . The track “The Spirit of ’93†is included here as a bonus song as it one of Jimmy’s most popular songs online and abroad. Carlos Ferragamo who is an unsigned hype alum for The Source Magazine is featured on the song and said, â€I like the “Spirit of 93†record. It had that old school hip-hop posse cut feel. Not too many people can put together that type of energy and cohesiveness on a record…â€
