Jarell Perry x APSPDR+ – Quiet Life [audio]
Jarell Perry has teamed up with dark grey producer APSPDR+ (SZA, BOSCO) for a poignant 4 minutes of rhythm & blues entitled “Quiet Life,” a modern homage to the simple things. Pulsing 808s and a haunting children’s choir paint a chilling backdrop for Perry’s soaring vocals. “Living loud is lonely,” he sings in the opening chorus; it’s a dark ballad for homesick youth in pursuit of passion and fame.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard original music from the Los Angeles-based future soul artist, who spent the last 6 months cultivating a personal practice of meditation and yoga inspired by cosigners Russell Simmons and Deepak Chopra. In between, he’s been working on collabs with a slew of progressive soundmakers like Rusko, deebs (Secret Songs), and starRo (Soulection), and dropping videos like this one, an emotionally addictive cover of Drake’s ‘Own It.’
Perry plans to release a follow up to 2014’s vibe-soaked White EP entitled Noise later this Spring. APSPDR+’s long awaited LP The Color of Sound is marked for March release.
