Elespee “Class of ’96 (WU-ERA)” ft. S. Habib x Whygee [audio]

It was the summer of ’96….1896. the U.S. was approaching what historians would later call the ‘nadir’ of race relations between whites and blacks. The number of lynchings peaked in 1892, at 230, and continued at rates of over 100 murders per year. Southern states invented new measures to disfranchise black voters. Weary of their treatment by the United States in general, and specifically in response to the events of May 18, 1896, where by the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its famous ruling in Plessy v. Ferguson, “Eloheem” and “Habib” traveled east, in search of peace and solitude. This they found, but urged in part by a visit from co-conspirator “Whygee” (of unknown origins), they soon realized they could not abandon their responsibilities to the western world. They returned to the states in December of that year.
