While Rick Ross’ Miami has largely become what nation pictures when they think of South Florida rap, there’s yet another Miami, a Miami filled with hip-hop artists devoted to lyricism and telling the story of their every day lives. QuEST is one of those artists, and as anyone who’s listened to his Searching Sylvan album knows, the man’s an artist with the mic. So when he swung by the DJBooth offices in New York City, we had to hear him break down the bars and meaning behind his excellent single, “Automatic.” As he says about the track, “It doesn’t get any more, ‘that’s what he was going through.’ That’s what it meant to me.” It’s rare to get a glimpse inside a song that means so much to an artist, enjoy.
