A tantalizing glimpse into the creative mind of one of Los Angeles’ rising talents, the Dark Moon EP by Shiva reflects a graceful golden realm where technology seduces the musical imagination. Released on all-female label Unspeakable Records, Dark Moon represents the producer’s first original productions.

Sussex-born, Florida-bred, and now based in LA, Shiva is already an established DJ in California. She has performed at some of the region’s largest festivals (Coachella) as well as the most underground of clubs (Low End Theory). Tiptoeing into a vibrant dream-jungle, title track “Dark Moon” creates electric poetry with a divergent collection of sounds. Close your eyes for “Dreamtime,” and let the warm layers lure you into a lucid state. Synths flow brightly in “Let It Burn,” and “Full Moon” rises from an exquisite darkness, setting its gaze straight ahead as a sinuous mass undulates below.

Riddled with influences that span from freeform jazz to tribal trance, Shiva’s music is a bold symphonic surrender with a classic soulful hum. Dark Moon is an apt introduction to Shiva’s artful sonic skills, and a harbinger of greater things to come from this promising young producer.
