Zilla Rocca & The Shadowboxers “Starvation Hour” [video]

The latest single from Zilla Rocca & The Shadowboxers’ LP No Vacation For Murder, “Starvation Hour” is a picturesque relic of long-abandoned aspirations. Director Bob Sweeney’s black-and-white photography turns everyday objects and settings – a sweaty basement, an empty parking lot, the streets of Philadelphia at night – into the props of a convincingly dystopian outpost.

Void of any flashy special effects, “Starvation Hour” locks in on Zilla Rocca, his sandpaper face, and his signature chrome microphone, with a blunted cameo by Wrecking Crew conspirator Curly Castro. “Starvation Hour” has the neonlighted hardness of a modern city where none but gangsters dwell. Inhumanity stalks the corridors of the glass-and-metal buildings that seem to immolate a breed of muscular ghosts, and fear signals briefly in the sad eyes of the corrupt novelist and noir hop creator.
