Substantial – Art Is Where The Home Is [DELUXE EDITION]
From his early beginnings, Substantial with Nujabes (Rest in Peace) and now Marcus D and others, has continuously made some of the most inspirational tracks in Hip Hop. His latest project, ‘Art Is Where The Home Is’ is a collection of remixes & live versions of songs from his critically acclaimed Mello Music Group debut, ‘Home Is Where The Art Is’ which was executive produced by Oddisee. This fresh, mellow take on HIWTAI features production by his Bop Alloy partner, Marcus D, Japan’s Haruka Nakamura, Deacon The Villain of CunninLynguists, DMV producers, Sean Toure’, Jsoul & The Other Guys, Jazz Hop producer duo A June & J Beat & Jackson, Mississippi’s 5-D.
‘Art Is…’ also features Sound of the City, a live band based in DC who Substantial frequently collaborates with. They provide lush live interpretations of See Hear & Check My Resume. The previously unreleased, yU of Diamond District produced track ‘Lost Lost’ features Jsoul and finds Substantial doing what he does best: wax poetics over a dark piano and gritty drums.
AIWTHI is a slightly more chilled reimagining of ‘Home Is Where The Art Is’ but if you’re a Substantial fan, it’s more of what you love. It is available digitally on Bandcamp, iTunes & Amazon and available on CD as an import via Japan’s Rockwell Product Shop.
