The Doppelgangaz – Peace Kehd [album stream]
Today, SPIN Magazine gives us a stream of Peace Kehd, the latest release from hip-hop duo The Doppelgangaz, a full week before it’s release date of February 18th. Seething with dark, powerful production and full of witty, amusing humor, The Doppelgangaz’ new album perfectly balances their recognizable sound along with new storytelling elements. Although the duo doesn’t believe they have matured, Peace Kehd offers a brilliant artistic representation of their development as rappers and producers. When asked about their growth, Matter Ov Fact and EP openly admitted, “We can say that our overall sound, presentation and business acumen have greatly improved and we look forward to continuing that trend. As human beings though, we’re pretty much the same douche bags we were when we dropped our first EP in 2008. Deal with it.”
The album emulates their rough lifestyle and captures that rugged, raw, New York rap. “We’re telling people to embrace flaws, appreciate themselves, and to accept the fact that there’s nothing wrong with living rugged,” the pair explains. The Doppelgangaz have always taken pride in working on everything independently, and it seems that the two have created another work to show that you don’t need a vast amount of resources to make an incredible rap album. Peace Kehd is destined to encounter success; it’s predecessor, 2013’s HARK, was named the #2 NY Hip-Hop Album by the Village Voice. Entering 2014, The Doppelgangaz have turned their experiences into an eleven-track long story, and they’re ready to tell it to the world.
