Damu The Fudgemunk – Coffee Run (Coffee Table Re-Arranged) [audio]
“Coffee Run” by Damu The Fudgemunk is a revamped version of his “Coffee Table” instrumental, one of the most popular songs from the original “Spare Time” LP. Spare Time was first released a few years ago as a free download / digital only album. Damu gathered all of his original floppy diskettes and record the new LP, Spare Overtime, he discovered that two of the OG beats, fan favs Coffee & Randi, could not be recovered because the floppy disks they were created on had been demagnetized and no longer functioned. Occurrences like this are par for the course when accessing magnetic data stored on aging floppy disks via what could now be considered ancient machinery. While technical failures prevented Damu from reloading and revising the original Coffee Table track as well as another fan favorite, Randi, he wasn’t willing to walk away or simply make use of the existing (lo-fi mp3) recordings. Instead, Damu took it as an opportunity to update previous ideas and techniques with something fresh. Reworking the same records in a new way, there are elements that are obvious, but the identity of the new version stands alone. Coffee Run was done with the intention of flipping the samples in the fashion and feel of a candidate that would’ve been selected for “How it Should Sound”. That album in particular has taken on a life of it’s own and many people recognize Damu The Fudgemunk for that style. Coffee Run is a message to assure fans, he still does it best. (Side note: despite their place in his fans hearts, Coffee Table and Randi are “nothing special,” according to Damu, who considers them some of his least favorites in his catalog.)
