Ricky B – Shake For Ya Hood (Quickie Mart remix) [video]
In 1996, New Orleans rapper Ricky B released the bounce classic “Shake Fa Ya Hood” (listen here on Youtube). 16 years later, Ricky has teamed up with New Orleanian producer/deejay Quickie Mart to present the Wylie Whitesides-directed music video for “Hood”‘s official dubstep remix. Quickie Mart’s “Hood” remix appears on the Space Monkey Radio EP, a collection of artist-approved dubstep remixes of songs also including rapper Freddie Gibbs, California ska-funk outfit Slightly Stoopid and singers Shyvonne and Justina. In the last two years alone Quickie Mart has released four volumes of the Haze Diaries mixtape series with rapper Gotham Green, featuring Freddie Gibbs and Planet Asia. Gypsyphonic Disko, his klezmer/New Orleans bounce/hip-hop fusion project with Ben Ellman of Galactic, was included in Nerve.com‘s Five Albums You Should Be Listening To Right Now and his Brain Salad Surgery mashup tape was released in late 2009. “Ricky asked me to remix his classic New Orleans bounce tune,” Mart says of the “Hood” project. “Naturally, I accepted.”
